Bunny's Tactical Tips for Urban Warfare for my friends in Ukraine
Urban warfare is a harrowing and intense battle environment. Having experienced similar challenges in Iraq, I want to offer some insights that may be of value to the defenders of Kiev, Ukraine. These tactics are born from hard-learned lessons and may help you navigate this difficult terrain.
1. **Stay Off the Streets:** I can't stress this enough. Urban warfare is brutal, and being caught outside is a recipe for disaster.
2. **Doors Are Fatal Funnels:** Doors are tempting entry points. Aim your weapons at them to maximize your firepower.
3. **Block Entrances:** Use anything you can find to block doors from the inside, making it seem unblocked to invaders.
4. **Stairways Are Kill Zones:** Block stairways to slow down enemy advances.
5. **Grenades Downstairs:** When tossing grenades downstairs, have your weapon ready. Invaders may rush upstairs after the blast.
6. **Shoot from Above or Below:** Cut small holes in the floor to fire into rooms below. Enemies often look straight ahead, not up or down.
7. **No Slings:** Keep your weapon at the ready; don't sling it around your body.
8. **Handy Tools:** Have a knife, spade, or club ready for close combat situations.
9. **Vary Your Position:** Never fire from the same window twice; stay unpredictable.
10. **Muzzle Discipline:** Don't expose your rifle's muzzle outside a window. Shoot from deep within the room.
11. **Wound, Don't Kill:** If you wound an enemy, let his friends come to help. It ties up more of their manpower.
12. **Demoralize:** Shoot those trying to evacuate wounded soldiers.
13. **Stay Fueled:** Keep carbohydrates on hand and stay hydrated. Urban warfare is physically demanding.
14. **Keep Moving:** Avoid staying in one spot for too long.
15. **Precision Shots:** Accurate shots can hold up enemy forces. You don't have to be a sniper, just create fear.
16. **Use Sewers and Subways:** When possible, move through sewers and subways.
17. **Avoid Friendly Fire:** Communicate your position to allies to prevent friendly fire incidents.
18. **Tracer Discipline:** Consider removing tracers from your ammunition supply to stay concealed.
19. **Tracer Awareness:** Keep one magazine of tracer rounds for signaling enemy positions to friends.
20. **Confusion Tactics:** Remove street signs and deface building names to sow confusion.
21. **Evacuate Wounded Promptly:** Don't delay evacuating wounded soldiers.
22. **Retreat Warning:** If the enemy suddenly pulls back, get out fast. It might signal impending heavy artillery or airstrikes.
Remember, these are extreme measures for extreme situations. Stay safe, and I hope none of you ever have to use these tactics.
